Kodaikanal Solar Observatory celebrates 125 years of studying the sun

Celebrated on 1st April 2024 by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (Bengaluru).

KSO established on 1st April 1899 by the British.

The KSO houses a digital repository of 1.2 lakh digitised solar images and thousands of other images of the sun recorded every day since the start of the 20th century.

In 1909, Evershed Effect was discovered at KSO.

Evershed Effect is the phenomenon of radial motion of gases in sun spots.
